The scheme

The marketing industry is changing, and to stay at the top of our field, we need to be an adaptable, fast-learning organisation. Taking on graduates is a key part of how we achieve this.

This year we will take on one group in the summer (between July-September).
After an intense induction, you'll spend time in different divisions of the Company (Brightsource and Instinctiv), gaining an understanding of how the business operates as a whole and seeing what it's like working on individual tasks. You'll have a senior mentor and support from the Senior Management Team to get your learning off to the best possible start.

You'll be based in our Head Office in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire where you'll receive on-going training and take on a graduate project and have real responsibility early in your time with us.

Once you've completed your training (after one year), we will work with you to discuss your longer-term career development. You'll be the driving force to decide where you want your ambition to take you, balanced against the needs of the business. As a Brightgrad we'll help you to develop yourself and in return we'll count on you to deliver excellent service to our clients and high quality work

Selection Criteria

  • Ideally you'll have a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree from a top 60 university, but we'll consider a mixture of your secondary and higher qualifications as well as your work and personal experience.
  • You may be in your third year now, or you've graduated recently.
  • Or perhaps you've left university in the last 5 years and you're looking for structured training and development.
  • You might have attended university straight from school or you could be a mature student.
  • To be considered for our grad scheme you must have the legal right to live and work in the UK.

Training & development

We expect a lot from our Brightgrads – that's why we only select exceptional people with huge potential. To make the most of the skills you have, we recognise that a flexible, comprehensive training programme is essential.

Our in-house training will cover a range of learning including:

  • How to manage relationships with our clients and provide exceptional service
  • How to plan, organise and execute a direct marketing campaign
  • Why we use behavioural science to create powerful campaigns – and how we put these techniques into practice
  • Negotiation skills to ensure you get the best possible deals from our suppliers
  • How to develop your creative and conceptual thinking so that you can play an active role in developing campaign ideas

To get a better idea of what your training will be like, why not see what our current grads have to say? Take a look at James' blog to see what you can expect in your first six weeks with Brightsource.

Your role

You’ll spend six months in Brightsource learning about print specifications and different formats for a direct mail pack. You will learn what has doormat appeal, cost reduction and strategic purchasing initiatives, negotiating and managing our print partners and ensuring that the correct VAT is applied to all projects.

With the other six months in Instinctiv you will learn how to plan and produce a direct mail campaign – from communicating to the right audience with the right message, creative brief writing with a behavioural science lens, creative presentations, proofing artwork and results analysis. Our goal is to provide the best advice, guidance and service so we can help our client achieve the best response rate and return on investment from their campaigns.

You’ll need to demonstrate brilliant communication skills, managing our client’s expectations and giving them confidence that their campaign is in capable hands. You’ll be responsible for the delivery of projects ensuring they stay on schedule and are delivered to the highest quality.

We think it's important to offer our grads great opportunities to build their careers. On our scheme you'll have the opportunity to get involved in client pitches, innovation workshops and new business networking events to help grow our client base. From day one, you will be encouraged to share your own ideas and suggest smarter ways of doing things.
